Son: Aarav Bhatia
Hari Om Bhatia – Father
Hari Om Bhatia is the father of actor Akshay Kumar – the Khilaadi of bollywood. He is a Punjabi and hails from Amritsar. Mr. Bhatia was a soldier in the Indian Army. He left the army to join as an accountant in UNICEF in Delhi where his son was born. He recently died of cancer.
When Akshay, born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, was three years old, his father was transferred to Mumbai where they stayed in a rented hall in Sion Koliwada where they had a kitchen on one side, a dining table and bathroom on one side and a room in the middle. He told his son that when they had gone toDon Bosco School for his admission, he (Akshay) picked up a paper lying on the floor and threw it in a waste-paper basket on his own. Father Gatty saw him doing that and gave him admission without even interviewing him. Mr. Bhatia was proud that his son got admission in a big school like Don Bosco for a small thing that he had done!
Akshay being a mischievous guy, would always spend more time in the gallis playing than studying. His father, before joining the army, was a wrestler himself who had represented Punjab and therefore realised that Akki was more interested in sports than studies. He (Akshay) initially joined karate in class VII, influenced by one of his neighbours who would show off in front of girl she started falling in love with it. He joined Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Mumbai, just opposite Don Bosco in class XI, but soon he quit studies and was sent to Bangkok by his dearestdaddy to learn martial arts, as that is the only place they could afford, given that he would also work there to support his training. Akshay, the action king, trained in Thai boxing and Tai Chi and isa six-degree black belt holder. In Bangkok, he joined Metro guest house where there was a restaurant below and a guest house above and he would cook and serve food to the guests there.
The Rowdy Rathore Actor shared a very special bonding with his late father Hari Om Bhatia. He even named his production house Hari Om Entertainment. He extended his love by starting a cancer shelter, exclusively for police personnel, under his dad’s name — Hari Om Cancer Shelter. The project is close tohis heart, as years ago, when his(ex – army man)father was undergoing chemotherapy at the Tata Memorial Hospital, he would notice how severalpolicemen while undergoing treatment for the disease would face trouble with their stay and food arrangements. And that memory stayed in his mind. In effect, a policeman, who undergoes cancer treatment in Mumbai, can avail of theshelter’s services, including food and AC rooms with TV sets by paying just rupees 400 per day!
Aruna Bhatia – Mother
Akshay Kumar’s mom, Aruna Bhatia is a homemaker.
Every year he ensures that he spends his birthday with his mother as he believes that’s the day for his mom! His day still starts with her. He always cutshis birthday cake with his mommy. And that has been his routine for years!
Mamma’s boy Akshay feels that it is a mother’s life that should be worshipped, appreciated and never forgotten even for a day. It’s mothers that make all men’s lives successful; its mothers that make men realise how precious their wives are! The first 17 years of a child’s life are dependent almost entirely on their mother.
He was seen playing Lord Krishna in his home production, based on good friend Paresh Rawal’s Gujarati play Krishna Vs Kanhaiyalal. And when he told his mom about the film and his role, she convinced him to go off meatand become a strict vegetarian in order to do complete justice to his character. And Akshay just couldn’t refuse! He started following a strictly vegetarian diet at the behest of his mother.
Mrs. Bhatia as such never interferes with Akki’s career and this was the first time that she had come up with suggestions about his role. Being a doting son, this was one request Akshay was more than happy to accede to.So following his mother’s instructions, the actor hadgiven up meat and continued to be herbivorous till the shooting of the film got over. The star (Akshay) took his mom’s suggestion seriously and was keen enough to follow it with full dedication.
Akki feels that the best thing anyone can do is to treat their mothers like its Mother’s Day every day. Moms don’t stop being amazing for even a day, so why should one stop being grateful to them!
Alka Bhatia – Sister
The Housefull actor has got one sister named Alka Bhatia.
Alka tied the knot with construction honcho Surendra Hiranandani on December 23, after a long courtship. The wedding looked like a big fat Indian ceremony, which was organised in a traditional way. The celebrations of this alliance got commenced with Akki throwing a party for his sister at his bungalow.
Initially, Akshay was quite reluctant to give his nod to this wedding as the 55-year-old builder divorced his first wife Priti in 2011. Butthe internal differences he had about this union soon got resolved with Khiladi Kumar and his wife Twinkle Khanna, who actively participated in the wedding preparations. Looks like he finally had to relent to his sister’s wishes!
It was the second marriage for both Surendra and Alka. The couple declared their togetherness at Surendra’s father reputed ENT surgeon Dr LH Hiranandani’s 94th birthday celebration in Juhu! The two have been making appearances together at various events and also took off on a holiday to Turkey recently.

The Boss star celebrated his wife’s 41st birthday with a very special message! It was Twinkle Khanna’s birthday on December 29 and Akshay Kumar, like a good husband, celebrated his wife’s birthday with much fanfare. Akshay along with his entire family –including his children Aarav and Nitara, his sister Alka and brother – in-law Surendra Hiranandani, and other family members – flew to Goa and celebrated at his sea facing bungalow to bring in Twinkle’s birthday.
The Khiladi Kumar booked a yacht and took it to the middle of the ocean and dropped anchor for a good four or five hours. The birthday party and cake cutting took place on the yacht. And there was a very special message for Twinkle aka Tina from her patidev: ‘There’s really no contest when it comes to the best thing in my life. It’s you! You are the reason why I smile during good times. But more importantly you are the reason why I smile even during bad times. Happy birthday Tina!’ the fond husband tweeted! The Khiladi and his family were apparently in Goa for their New Year celebrations as well.
Aarav Bhatia – Son

On becoming proud parents of a sweet little angel, superstar Akshay excitedly divulged nuggets of information about the new bundle of joy in their life – she looks like Twinkle and grandma Dimple Kapadia and his first born Aarav is quite excited to play big brother The couple decided on their baby’s name and Akshay officially announced it. These two gorgeous people were so chilled out about family details, so the youngest Bhatia (Akshay Kumar’s real name being Rajiv Bhatia) was named Nitara Khanna – Bhatia. Yes, Twinkle and Akki’s baby bears her dad and granddad Rajesh Khanna’s last names. ‘Nitara’ is a Sanskrit word that means ‘having deep roots’. It was proud papa Akki’s idea to attach his late father – in – law’s surname to his baby girl’s moniker and his wife Twinkle instantly agreed with her hubby’s suggestion which was indeed very sweet on Akshay’s part!
